PlayStations are like buse… no wait, they’re absolutely bugger all like that number 14 you ride into work every day. While they might not come two at a time, Sony’s consoles are definitely expanding their lifespans. PS3 is into its sixth year, while we’re looking at around eight years for the little handheld that could PSP. Speaking to Sony UK VP and MD Fergal Gara recently, he talked more in-depth…

The boxart should be enough to let you know – happy kids with big eyes and bigger hair – but this should probably come with a ‘Severe RPG Warning’ regardless. Because if you’ve ever been bored senseless by reams of text dialogue or turn-based battles, run from this like a swine flu-infected flasher. But for those of us happy in that world, this is a glorious slice of genre nostalgia…

Persona 2 PSP

For some, Japanese RPGs are a delicious elixir – to others they’re harder to get into than a pair of size-four jeggings. Whether you end up adoring or despising Persona 2, you’ll have made up your mind long before you visit a local private detective agency and hire them to spread a rumour that the local ramen restaurant sells weapons on the side, which makes the rumour come true so…

Pac-man Championship Edition DX

Anyone looking to sprinkle magic rebirth dust over an old franchise needs to take a look at Pac-man: Championship Edition DX. Like King Arthur returning in Britain’s hour of need, Pac-man instantly reminds you why it was so huge in the first place.

God Of War: Ghost of Sparta

Now offering up its fifth instalment, it’s hard to think of a series that’s been as consistently brilliant as God Of War. Each console iteration has wowed us with slick combat, gorgeous environments and badass mythology, and the second PSP appearance once again proves that handheld needn’t mean small scale.

Gods Eater Burst

Ever stared at a stained glass window and wondered what your favourite idol tastes like? No? Well you need to play Gods Eater Burst anyway. This creature-nomming actioner is unlikely to reveal what flavour Jesus is, but smashing up monsters with a sword the size of Luxembourg more than makes up for that.

Valkyria Chronicles 3

There’s a sense of familiarity to Valkyria Chronicles 3. That’s not just because it’s a sequel, although if you’ve played either of the first two games (and if not, why not?) you’ll instantly recognise the game’s picture-book art style, its unique mix of action and strategy, and the preponderance of story to game.

Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy

Wouldn’t it be great if instead of flouncing around saving worlds, the amazo-haired cast of Final Fantasy ditched the do-gooding and decided to have a massive scrap? Yes it would, and that’s exactly why Dissidia 012 is delirious, choppy fun.
