There’s a moment in David Fincher’s Fight Club when Ed Norton’s character Jack takes on handsome, soft-faced Jared Leto in a no-rules basement scuffle – and smashes Leto’s angular cheekbones into paste. Jack’s justification, delivered while his opponent’s twitching on the floor? “I felt like destroying something beautiful.”

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt PS4 screens

You see that grotesque, three-eyed beast over there? Yeah, the one with the antlers big enough to impale a dozen men with a single head flick. There are many of his kind in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PS4. But what do you know about him besides the fact that he’d appreciate it if you’d kindly refrain from picking wildflowers in his pasture? Well, if you don’t mind us spoiling the surprise, he’s called a Friend. (Oh wait, our mistake – it’s Fiend, definitely not Friend.) He’s got a devastating ram attack and a third eye on his forehead that emits a debilitating spell. In short, he’s a nasty one.

It’s unfortunate that the word Hohokum sounds a bit like ho-hum, because it’s hard to imagine ever growing bored while immersed in the bizarre subconscious of artist Richard Hogg. You play as one such critter, in fact – a stripey snake called The Long Mover.

Thief PS4

Like a pack of nefarious Vice Versas, Thief is a game full of contrasts. The very rich abusing the destitutes, in pitch-black streets dotted with bright candlelight, made up of ancient structures next to industrial-era digs – okay, you get the picture.

Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag preview screens

Unless you’ve been hiding under an internet-proof rock for the last week, you might have heard that Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is stabbing his way through the high seas of the 18th Century Caribbean. Ignoring all the jokes about a boat based game springing some very big leaks – screens, maps, and more all spilled out – we can now happily spill the whole rum-drenched story. And it’s far more exciting than we could have predicted.
