Here’s a chance to see all the graphical tweaks added to the PS4 version of Tomb Raider in direct comparison to the ‘soooo 2013′ PS3 version. Watch, as it does a great big graphic all over your eyes! The video’s a good yardstick for potential purchase, especially if you plumped for the last-gen release already. First impressions – it looks darker, Lara’s hair looks stragglier, and if we’re honest we don’t need much of an excuse to play it all over again.

Here’s a bunch of Tomb Raider screens showing off Lara’s bad day in all it’s glory. Overall Joel had plenty of nice things to say about Tomb Raider, praising the story and gameplay through out. The only real criticisms seem to be Lara’s rapid Far Cry 3-style acceleration from fragile flower to murderous death dealer. And while it’s very nearly up there with Uncharted it lacks the sense of scale and impact to quite go toe to toe with Drake. It’s close though.

Tomb Raider PS3 review – Uncharted territory a far cry from series’ roots

If series reboots are the new black (and let’s face it, it’s either that or brutal melee takedowns), then it’s safe to say Lara wears hers well. And while this origins story leaves many of the franchise’s traditions at the door, Crystal Dynamics’ cobble job is thankfully far more Batman than Conan; more Street Fighter than Duke Nukem. It cribs heavily from the top dogs in its own as well as other genres, but it does so sensibly and effectively, while throwing in a handful of neat new features along with an enjoyable (if not always totally coherent) shipwreck storyline.
