Sleeping Dogs True Crime Hong Kong

Here’s OPM’s Joel and CVG’s James to talk you through a video preview of the new crime game Sleeping Dogs. There are triads who apparently “do bad crime stuff” as well as some violent Arkham City style fighting, smooth traversal mechanics and loads of very satisfying looking slow-mo head shots. There’s plenty of new in game footage in there so fill your boots. We’ve also got a load of Sleeping Dogs screens and another Sleeping Dogs preview

Sleeping Dogs True Crime Hong Kong

If my flight to Hong Kong to see Sleeping Dogs was anything like as turbulent as the game’s development, I’d have come back with such a fear of anything airborne that even a stray Frisbee would result in tear-soaked hyperventilation. Because while many big games may suffer staff reshuffles or release date delays, this is a game that was dead. Done. Kaput. Sleeping with the poisson. (Click here for Sleeping Dogs PS3 screens.)

ridge racer unbounded ps3

The word ‘simple’ is rarely a compliment – just ask any browbeaten teacher who’s mistakenly used the word at a parents’ evening. But Bugbear is embracing the term for its arcade take on Ridge Racer, and in a world of ‘emergent gameplay scenarios’ and ‘delineated dynamic narrative oxidation’ it’s actually pretty refreshing.

Here’s CVG’s James and Matt to talk about Street Fighter X Tekken. They’ve spent some time with the game and have plenty to say about the balancing, if the crossover feels gimmicky and whether it stands up to the Street Fighter legacy. There’s also tons of new punchy footage.

Spec Ops: The Line PS3 preview – this year’s most traumatic shooter?

Spec Ops: The Line

Now I wasn’t expecting that. I’m not talking about the city-levelling gunfight I’ve just had with a battalion of rogue American soldiers – 90-minutes with Spec Ops: The Line and stamina sapping shootouts are pretty much par for the course.

Neither am I talking about the street that’s now choked with the wailing soon-to-be-corpses of my enemies, their life seeping into the surrounding sand, staining it a morbid shade of crimson. What really surprised me was how I felt. Because I felt like a total a-hole. A soulless, murdering bastard.

Syndicate game PS3

Here’s Andy Kelly to talk you through his thoughts on the opening hours of Syndicate, the techy shooter from EA and Starbreeze. Pros: great future noir world, storytelling and characters. Cons: lack of depth, old fashioned game design and rubs boss fights. Overall, it’s looking strong though so watch the video which has loads of new footage and see what you think.

Want to see Dirt Showdown gameplay in action? Of course you do. Here’s me and OPM’s Phil Iwaniuk discussing the finer points of Codies’ new racer: why Dirt Showdown isn’t Dirt 4, what’s new in terms of events and action, and, most importantly, does it look like it’s any good.

Ghost Recon Future Soldier PS3

Why should you care about another modern shooter? It’s a tough question, and one I’m not sure Ghost Recon: Future Soldier can answer convincingly, even if Jeremy Paxman were giving it a grilling. Some of its environments look ominously COD-like, and those are big toes to step on. But under the generic visuals lies the ace up Future Soldier’s sleeve: deadly gadgets and gizmos galore. Basically, this is Sam Fisher doing Modern Warfare.

Final Fantasy XIII-2

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Serah

You don’t get direct Final Fantasy sequels often – hardly ever, actually. There’s been one to date, in the form of FF X-2. It scored pretty well and racked up a few awards, but wasn’t without its problems – the lighter shift in tone and shallower gameplay annoyed hardcore FFers. So how’s Final Fantasy XIII-2 shaping up?
