PS4′s LED turns red when hot, not ‘the red line of death’ says Shu

Looks like that swish blue LED on the PS4 turns red when things get too hot. This picture of a PlayStation 4 sealed inside a plastic box shows what’s already being called ‘the red line of death’ because ‘overheating warning’ is way too plain. In case you’re worried they opened the case and everything went back to normal.

Still, it got a response from Shuhei Yoshida who tweeted this answer back when asked about the red line:

Presumably he’s saying the red line isn’t a death indicator, just an overheating warning. The incident appears to have happened at a Spanish event in the early evening after the machines had been running all day. The PS4 with the red line also displayed a warning on screen about overheating. A Sony rep came over, opened the box, and both the line and warning went away, leaving everything running normally. Stand down everyone.
