The Last Of Us DLC announced: new multiplayer maps, giraffes & single player character on the way

Naughty Dog has announced details for three The Last Of Us DLC packs. The first, due October 15th, is a multiplayer map pack while the second is a single-player expansion introducing a new character and aiming for a December/January release.

The Last Of Us DLC: new  maps, giraffes & single player story

First up will be the “Abandoned Territories Map Pack” for multiplayer. It includes three maps and, more importantly, giraffes. Here’s the description:

“Weather the opposing Faction and the random, dynamic dust storm on the Suburbs map. Explore a layered map of an overgrown urban environment with wild giraffes in the background in the Bus Depot map. Stalk around in a dark, eerie, moonlit, environment – the perfect setting for some serious stealth – in the Hometown map. Bookstore features a stacked, bi-level layout adding a highly unique dose of vertical gameplay. Excited yet? These maps will be available October 15″.

Naughty Dog also shed some light on, “our first ever story-driven single player DLC”, described as, “an ambitious story with strong ties into the narrative of The Last of Us“. It’s a work in progress with the studio explaining, “We just wrapped up a long casting process for a new character, and we’re starting our performance capture shoot next week”. That’s currently planned for a December to January release.

The final piece of DLC is aiming for around, “the first half of 2014″ but all the team have to say on that is, “We’ll start to reveal more information and a release timeframe as soon as we’ve worked out those details”.

There’s also a ton of peripheral tat with loads of new hats (Oh, Christ). These include, “over 60 different head items for your multiplayer character ranging from a Nightmare Mask to a Pigskin Hat that will be free for all Season Pass buyers. These head items will be available a la carte as well, but it’s a tremendous added value for all Season Pass holders.
