Sony boss on PS4/Vita bundle: “No firm plans at this stage to put the two together in one box”

[Update: PS4 PS Vita bundle releasing Christmas say industry sources.]

Sony’s Fergal Gara has put the dampeners on previous rumours of a PS4 and Vita bundle saying the company has, “No firm plans at this stage to put the two together in one box”. The “at this stage” bit does however leave a shred of hope for future deals.

Sony on rumoured PS4/Vita bundle

When asked if Sony had any intention to bundle or discount a pairing of its next-gen console and hand held Gara replied, “No firm plans at this stage to put the two together in one box”. He didn’t discount the possibility however that retailers could combine them in some way adding, “but as a minimum there is clearly the opportunity for us to work with retailers to put them together alongside each other as at least a great companion trade up sale”.

The reduction of costs that led to the cheaper Vita, just in time for PS4′s release, is something Gara calls, “a nice coincidence in timing”. Bringing costs down is something he says is, “a process we continually try and drive on all of the platforms. How can we sweat the technology and production costs to offer better value to the gamer. So we’ve hit a moment when we can do that and bring [the Vita] down in cost [and] that happens to time very very nicely with PS4, which further adds to the PlayStation Vita agenda.”
