GTA 5 gameplay trailer is running on PS3, Rockstar confirms

Well, it seems like the old gal has something left in the tank after all. If you were paying attention during the GTA 5 gameplay video reveal yesterday, you may have noticed several clips that showed off DualShock buttons.

Rockstar has since confirmed the impressive GTA 5 in-game footage was indeed running on PS3. “Just to clarify for those asking, this particular video was captured with footage from the PS3 version of the game,” the published said on its website.

This is encouraging for two reasons. Firstly, it’s great to see a publisher squeeze so much out of the current-gen. More importantly, it also demonstrates Rockstar’s confidence in the PS3 version of GTA 5. Previous PS3 games by the achingly cool developer haven’t  quite been up to the standard of their Xbox equivalents. While GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption were both sensational titles in their own right, both PS3 ports ran at sub 720p resolutions, while the latter was blighted with pop-up and other technical issues when placed next to the 360 version.

Judging from the GTA 5 video, though, it seems there’s no danger of PS3 getting the short end of the stick this time out. Huzzah.

Also, if Rockstar can eek this much out of that black box sitting under your telly, imagine how good GTA 5 on PS4 could look. Rockstar has always denied its working on a next-gen version, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the game gets ported to Sony’s new machine at some point in the future.
