Supervillainy is a team sport. Minions provide the muscle to carry out kidnappings and bank heists, keep the air conditioning going in your volcano fortress and can be casually bumped off en masse as part of the punchline to a cackling, villainous joke. Naturally, this divergent style of management requires a certain charisma to maintain. Like Batman’s Joker, you want a reputation for balancing work with play, charm with intelligence, and mass murder with a good use of props. “Yes, he’s a villain,” you want them to say, “but Jane and I saw him blow up that sports arena last year and he really was superb.”
