Lara Croft – Tomb Raider
Lara was given the full works in this year’s brilliant Tomb Raider reboot. The darker reimagining of the series takes Lara back to her genesis. She’s naïve, unwilling to get her hands dirty, and even remarks how she hates tombs quite early on in the adventure. She’s forced headfirst into some of the grottiest, dirtiest and most uncomfortable places that you’d ever want to be, and somehow manages to come out relatively unscathed. By the end, she even enjoys the thrill. More than any other character, Lara has been given a fully fleshed out, brilliantly realised origins story that packs a poignant transition, and it’s exhilarating from start to finish.
