Remember that first thrill of arriving at a lighthouse, descending into the Atlantic Ocean in a bathysphere and seeing Rapture rise out of the gloom for the very first time? Though the underwater metropolis was still as beautiful as it was eerie the second time around, it lost some of that ‘wow’ factor when we’d explored much of it before. Columbia returns to that excitement of discovering a brave new world, even echoing Bioshock’s opening of the player’s arrival at a lighthouse, where it exchanges a bathysphere for a slightly more intense way to travel.
