PS Vita price cut in Japan. “Nothing to announce at this time” for Europe
[Update: Sony have also apparently cut $100 off the price of a US 3G PS Vita with rumours the model will soon be discontinued.]
Sony has cut the price of the PS Vita in Japan by nearly 30% from ¥24,980 to ¥19,980. The reduction will be live from February 28th. It’s stated that this reduction is, so far, “for the Japan region only”.
Sony cut PS Vita price
As well as cutting the price of the console Masaru Kato, Sony’s EVP and chief financial officer has said, “One thing is clear for us that in terms of profitability, we have to do a better job in promoting the PlayStation Vita mobile product. How do we do that? Well, gaming business software is the name of the game. So as a fundamental measure, we are putting all – a lot of resources, not just first party, but also asking third parties to put out more attractive software.” Hopefully that means we’ll see more game in the near future.
When asked whether other countries might see a similar reduction Sony responded: ”The price cut announced today is for the SCE Japan region only and we have nothing to announce at this time regarding pricing within the our own region.”
