Fallout 4 setting rumoured to be Boston, Massachusetts
[Update: New messages from the Fallout 4 teaser site confirm Massachusetts & the fall of Vault 119.]
Rumours of a Boston setting for Fallout 4 have surfaced, after a Reddit user- who “may or may not be” an MIT employee- claimed that Bethesda have been scoping out and researching the area ahead of starting work on the game.
Boston for Fallout 4?
The Reddit user, going by the handle “fallout4boston”, claimed he couldn’t say more for fear of losing his job, but cited Bethesda’s close links to MIT to support the claim. He later posted: “Apologies for the vagueness of this post. It’s not just my job that worries me, but also getting the f*ck sued out of me. Bethesda’s contracts are basically full-proof (sic) so if they were to discover who I am, or rather, who I got this information from, a few people including myself could get into a lot of trouble.”
Other users chimed in with support for the rumours, suggesting that a Massachusetts setting wouldn’t go down too badly with the existing Fallout fanbase.
Of course since Bethesda has yet to give any indication that Fallout 4 actually exists outside of fan speculation, “leaks” like this have to be taken with a pinch of salt. A Boston setting would work within the Fallout universe- in its post-apocalyptic world, MIT has evolved into the mysterious android-producing “Institute”- but until Bethesda confirm anything we’ll wait and see.
