Battlefield 4 to keep modern setting. Bad Company 3′s corpse gently toed
Speaking at GDC 2012 general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson has spoken both about Battlefield 4 and Bad Company 3.
According to Troedsson Battlefield 3 will be staying a current day war experience. “We still want to stay in this genre, the modern day as it is,” he said. “We feel this is a place we can be and continue with the series. Battlefield 4 can live in this space and be very successful.”
The decision has been influenced by a number of different elements says Troedsson. “There’s a lot of things inspiring us as to how the franchise will move on. Everything from fan feedback, to market research and, of course, what we want to build ourselves”.
Battlefield 4′s release was confirmed last month with a beta announced as a pre-order incentive for Medal Of Honor: Warfighter. It’s currently dated for a late 2013 release suggesting it will be one of the first PS4 games.
Bad Company 3 was at least focus tested somewhere between 2009 and 2011 but presumably didn’t do too well as it doesn’t seem to have got any further. Troedsson did give a tiny sliver of hope to the chance of a Bad Company 3 at the talk however, saying, “That doesn’t mean there might not be a Bad Company game again in the future”.
