The Last Guardian “will ship” says Sony
Sony have stated unequivocally that the beleaguered and currently AWOL The Last Guardian “will ship”. Although they also add the caveats, “when it’s absolutely ready”, and, “at sometime”.
Speaking in an interview, PlayStation software development head Scott Rohde responded to questions about the title by saying, “I will not give you a detailed update, but I will say one thing and it goes back to innovation and to gamers and to quality. That title is going to ship when it’s absolutely ready.”
When pushed to confirm that the game would come out he replied, “It’s going to ship at sometime, and it’s going to ship when it’s ready. And I think that’s a really important thing to remember, is that it would be very easy to ship a game when it’s not quite ready because we need to meet a business plan. Gamers are first, and the experiences we provide are first. And that’s why we’re gonna talk about that game when we’re ready to talk about it.”
The game’s status has been unconfirmed since Ico and Shadow of The Colossus creator Fumito Ueda left Sony as full time employee to finish The Last Guardian in a freelance capacity. Sony have repeatedly stated the title is still in development but a conspicuous no-show at E3 did not bode well.
