SCEE boss Jim Ryan: PS3 has “a long way to go yet”

Speaking after Sony’s E3 2012 conference, Sony Europe boss Jim Ryan said games like Beyond and The Last of Us demonstrated that there’s “a long way to go yet” for PS3, dispelling any assertions that E2 2012 might be the platforms’ swansong.

When asked if Sony’s strong games portfolio at the conference were indicative of a platform in the latter stages of its life cycle, Ryan responded:

“No I don’t think that’s the case. What struck me at the conference was the sheer amount of innovation – at our conference at least – and I think that’s really indicative of a platform that’s got a long way to go yet.”

PlayStation 3 is approaching six years old, having launched in Japan and America in Novermber 2006 – European PS3 sales started in March 2007. Both the PlayStation and PS2 were six years old before a newer model superceded them.
