Tomb Raider release date delayed until 2013

‘Tis the season for games to slip right out of 2012, apparently. First Bioshock Infinite gets delayed until Feb 2013, and now comes the news from Square Enix that their rebooted Lara won’t be raiding any tombs this year either.

The game’s expected to be released in Q1 2013 – that is to say, before March. The reason for the delay? An extended polish phase, and a desire to make the best darn Tomb Raider game possible, according to Darrell Gallagher, studio head at Crystal Dynamics:

“Our priority now is to make sure we fully deliver the very highest quality game. In order to do this, we have decided to move the game’s release date by a few months, from Fall 2012 to the first quarter of 2013.”

“We’re doing things that are completely new to Tomb Raider in this game and the additional development time will allow us to put the finishing touches into the game and polish it to a level that you deserve,” Gallagher continued.

The Crystal Dynamics boss also assured that Tomb Raider will be making an appearance at E3 in a few weeks time. You can read Gallagher’s full statement here.
