Dust 514 reveals Neocom PS Vita app, survival mode, mechs and in-game betting

The EVE Fanfest closing keynote has revealed a ton of new info and extras for the shooter including a Dust 514 companion app for PS Vita and the ability to bet money on the outcome of horde mode arenas.

The Vita app is tentatively called the Dust 514: Neocom and features all the main communication options from the PS3 game. That includes the market, skills, mail, chat, fitting (customisation) and the star map. Essentially it lets you communicate and arrange contracts, buy gear and adjust your loadouts while you’re away from your PS3. Developer CCP also hinted at ”Real time Vita/PS3 gameplay”. It currently has a 2012 release date, as does Dust 514.

They also revealed a survival mode that sees players fighting off a range of robot drones. Where it gets interesting is that both EVE and Dust players will be able to watch and bet on these matches in-game. Considering the entire EVE Online universe revolves around cash the ability to chance sums of it is a big deal.

Other things revealed were plans for other Dust environments (the game currently only supports temperate planets). A lava planet concept was teased with hints that gameplay could revolve around needing vehicles to survive. The keynote also announced that MTAC mining mechs would be introduced to the game in 2013.

So to recap: Vita app, survival mode, gambling and big robots. Done.
