PS Vita’s launch titles: fighting game roundup

Rality Fighters Vita

We outlined all the PS Vita’s launch titles earlier – 26 of them in total. Now we’re going in for a deeper look at how each genre’s represented, and having covered the PS Vita sports launch titles we’re donning our battle robes and taking a look at Vita’s fighting launch titles – Reality Fighters, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.

Reality Fighters (SCEE)

This one’s quite the augmented reality demo. The idea is that your custom made fighters got to it in the real world, after you place one of the AR cards down on a surface at let the Vita ‘see’ it.

There are an estimated 8 trillion custom fighter combinations, the usual story/vs/survival/arcade modes, and the fighters’ size depends on how big a card you show the Vita, so if like Leon you’re determined to create life-size combatants, it’s possible. Regarder:

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend (Arc System Works)

This anime-beat ‘em up plays it safer than Reality Fighters, relying on pretty 2D visuals to convey the fighting. And we do mean pretty – the screenshots don’t really do it justice.

This is one for the seasoned fighting fan primarily, but there’s a pretty comprehensive tutorial to get you up to speed with all the cancels, combos and revolver actions. The rear touch pad can be used like a hit box for super-fast control inputs, plus there’s hours of anime prettiness that fills in each character’s back-story, and a downright obscure series of episodes featuring a sexy teacher and her cat. Not as bad as it sounds.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 (Capcom)

The genre’s most absurdly over-the-top title also gets launch title status for Sony’s touch-feely handheld. you can expect all the additional characters from the Ultimate version of MvsCC on PS3, just littler – 50 in total.

You can use touch screen controls too, battle online using WiFi and save your replays so you can relive the torture and humiliation over and over and over and over again. Nice.
