PS Vita pre-order guide: the cheapest prices, best bundles

PS Vita pre-order guide

With the PS Vita arriving in just a few weeks’ time on 22 February, we thought it best to examine the best pre-order deals out there. Finding the cheapest deal is one thing (and we have, don’t worry), but finding a deal that bundles the games and kit you’d actually want is quite another.

Brace yourself as we scrutinise the market with the precision of a cyborg tax collector and show YOU where to get the best deals. Just remember, we’re not responsible for external sites and any changes in price they may make.

Before we start with the nitty gritty, we should probably mention that all pre-order packs come with the following:

  • Limited edition in-ear headphones with a sleek “PlayStation Vita Blue” metallic finish
  • £5 discount on one of the following PS Vita games on PlayStationStore: Little Deviants, Super Stardust
  • Delta, Hustle Kings, Escape Plan
  • Exclusive PS Vita items for PlayStationHome: PS Vita T- Shirt, Sunglasses, Headphones, Trainers and Bag
  • An exclusive PlayStation Vita avatar for PlayStationNetwork
  • Exclusive early access to Frobisher Says! for PlayStation Vita

That’s a Sony pre-order pack, not an individual retailer bonus so take those items as a given with any pre-order deal. It’s also worth mentioning that a) you will need a memory card for your Vita, and b) the above pre-order pack doesn’t include one. You win again, capitalism! *shakes fist angrily at sky*

So with a clear idea of what you will and won’t get from the deals we’re about to list, let’s don our cheapskate hats and get cracking. We pored over prices from Play.com, Game, Zavvi, Amazon, Gamestop, Tesco and more and the overwhelming majority priced the two different models of Vita as follows:

Wi-Fi only Vita (with pre-order pack): £229.99

3G plus Vita (with pre-order pack): £269.99

If you’re paying more than this, you’re paying too much. The best deal? It comes from a magical place, with toys of a million all under one roof… Yep, Toys R Us’s PS Vita pricings knock the rivals out of the water:

Wi-Fi only Vita (with pre-order pack): £214.99

3G plus Vita (with pre-order pack): £259.99

What’s even better about that deal is that unlike most pre-orders deals from the other retailers we’ve mentioned, you’re restricted to two items rather than one. What’s that, eBay? Exploit people’s launch-day disappointment and list the spare for an inflated sum? Hey, worse things have happened.

Zavvi‘s PS Vita deals were reportedly as low as £199.99 for the Wi-Fi only model, but that price has since returned to a reasonable £219.99. Oh, and do keep in mind that all these deals include free delivery. That’s your cheapest console-only deals sorted then, but let’s face it – you’re going to need some games to play, and a memory card too. Who offers the best bundle?

This one isn’t quite as cut-and-dry, but we reckon the play.com PS Vita bundle packoffers the best deal by bundling a Wi-Fi only Vita, an 8GB memory card and Uncharted: Golden Abyss for £274.99  Drake’s portable adventure tops the pre-order charts, and given how freakin’ expensive those memory cards are it’s a good idea to get at least an 8GB model. If you’re set on the 3G model, you can get that same bundle for £324.99

Let’s say you don’t want Uncharted: Golden Abyss – the beest place to look is Amazon’s PS Vita bundles. Their pre-order bundle works a bit like lunch time meal deal – pick a console, an 8GB memory card and one of the six games on offer (of admittedly varying appeal), all for £234 for the Wi-Fi model, and £284 for the 3G. Pricier than the play.com offers then, but that’s what you get for your crazy niche taste in Vita games.
