As the year draws to a close, it’s time to pull up a chair by the fire and reminisce about plings past. With help from #1 trophy hunter Hakoom we take a look back at the most elusive silverware from the last 12 months and ask the question “Seriously, what were they thinking?”
Dead Space 2
Hard to the Core – Complete the game on Hard Core setting
Unlocked after completing the game on any difficulty, Hard Core mode disables New Game+ so you begin with no carried over upgrades or weapons. Checkpoints are disabled and you only get three saves to use during the entire game! THREE! That coupled with increased enemy durability and reduced ammo drops make this a massive and time consuming challenge.
Fight Night Champion
Squat Thrusting – Obtain boxer level 60 in OWC
When fighting in the Online World Championship, your boxer level works on a points system where beating a higher level opponent reward lots of points but defeat to a lower level loses many points. The matchmaking system prevents boosting with friends and coupled with connection problems means even the best players in the world are stuck around level 55. Impossible.
Team Ico Collection: Shadow of the Colossus
Meticulous Collector – Acquire all items available in hard time attack
Beating all of the Colossi in time attack mode is no easy feat, and on hard difficulty you have even less time and additional weak spots to target to achieve this. Some of the target times are so short that the only way to beat them is to exploit glitches, making this a test of luck as well as skill.
Marvel vs Capcom 3
Master of Tasks – Clear 480 missions in Mission mode
In Mission mode you need to perform a series of increasingly difficult move combos to clear each stage; there are 10 missions for each of the 48 characters meaning you need to beat every single challenge. A lot of these combos require expert timing and speed to pull off, so only those with top fighting skills and dextrous fingers will complete this.
Still Alive – Complete Course 4 with neither you nor your co-op partner dying
This online course is littered with lasers, turrets and various other obstacles designed to ruin your day, and one slip up from either you or your co-op partner will send you right back to square one. Good communication and lots of patience is the key to success here, and all this for just a bronze trophy at the end! Mad.
