Official PlayStation Magazine UK’s GOTY No 10: inFamous 2

2011′s Official PlayStation Magazine UK Game Of The Year feature is here. 40 of the top games from the last twelve months, as voted for by you. The full 40 are in the mag but we’ll be counting down the top ten Mon-Fri, this and next week. So, at number ten, here’s a superpowered opener. On the surface, Sucker Punch’s electrickery-powered open-world adventure appearing in this chart isn’t the slightest bit surprising: moving the series to a beautiful New Orleans-inspired setting and amping up protagonist Cole’s already mega-fun powers were both design decisions that culminated in this taking a huge leap forward from the shorn shockmaster’s debut outing.

Nope, the real stunner is that come voting time Cole, Zeke and the never-less-than-hateable Nix shielded the challenge of some almighty names to take their place among this year’s elite. No FIFA, presumably because you found that new defending mechanic too inaccessible to overcome.

No Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, which we’ll put down to the fact that it was released later than anything else in this top ten. Most incredible of all, no Modern Warfare 3 – a sure sign that no matter how many copies it sells, you guys want to see something truly new emerge beneath the Call Of Duty name. (For more on which, see page 16.)

Instead, despite us still preferring his less-polished features from game one, Cole’s lightning fingers and adjustable morals (again, your decision to be good or bad produces tangible results come the climax) land him at number ten, unquestionably aided by the evil ending – one of the most emotional PlayStation moments ever. For sentiment, nothing in MW3 can touch that final scene where… ah, see for yourself (spoilers if you haven’t seen the evil ending). You’ll soon appreciate that this placing isn’t overly surprising after all.
