New Tomb Raider movie ‘took a lot’ from Rise of the Planet of the Apes

I’ve only seen a trailer for the Rise of the Planet of the Apes so I can’t vouch for whether this is a good thing or not for the Tomb Raider reboot. Still it’s nice to see Malfoy got to make at least one other film after Harry Potter.

Producer Graham King told Digital Spy that “It’s re-inventing the wheel a bit, it’s a reboot. We’re going back before she was Lara Croft, so it’s a much more emotional character piece. She’s in search of her parents.”

The script’s been written by Iron Man screenwriters Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby. King has apparently been impressed by the Apes movie’s ability to reset the story. “One of my favourite movies of this year was Rise of the Planet of the Apes and the way they rebooted that franchise. I thought it was fantastic and took a lot away from that for Tomb Raider.”

There’s no word on cast or anything yet (that’s Alison Carroll, the last Tomb Raider model up there) although King previously told comingsoon.net ”The story that we’re telling is really the story before she became Lara Croft, so it is a character piece. It does have a lot of really great characters, but it’s a lot of action and a lot of fun, and for me, it’s something very different. I’ve not really done a movie like that before, but I really gravitated to rebooting this franchise and we’re going to give it a shot.”
