7 things I wish I’d known before I started Skyrim
Your first few hours in Skyrim are overwhelming. There’s so much to do and see that you don’t know where to begin. Luckily, we’re here to help. After 50 odd hours of questing and exploring – a number that will certainly reach triple figures in the coming weeks – we’ve picked up some tips and tricks that will, hopefully, help new players get to grips with the biggest, deepest RPG on PS3. Find the best weapons, get rich quick, plus how to become a vampire, or join the Dark Brotherhood – it’s all here. And be warned it’s could be a bit spoilery in places. There’s also CVG’s Skyrim guide and tips for a little extra help.
1. How to join the Dark Brotherhood
So you want to be an assassin, eh? In Oblivion, murdering an innocent would attract the attention of this cult of killers, but it’s a little different in Skyrim. To set in motion the chain of events that will lead to you embracing Sithis, you’ll have to locate a boy called Aventus Aretino.
His house is in the city of Windhelm, on the upper level, and you’ll have to pick the lock to get in. Once you’ve completed the quest, continue playing the game as normal and eventually a mysterious courier will deliver a note to you. When he does, sleep in any bed you own, or an inn, and await your dark destiny.
