Battlefield 4 or Mirror’s Edge 2: What should DICE make next?

Placed on a sheet of A4 the question in the headline above should be simple like a slack-jawed, sunburnt hillbilly. Battlefield 3 registered 3 million pre-orders before the game even shipped, while Mirror’s Edge adventure only just managed to sneak past the million mark in its first four months on sale. From a simple profit perspective DICE choosing between the destructive shooter and Faith’s parkour-heavy adventure for its next project would appear to be the most academic of answers.

Still, releasing a demanding first-person platformer was a ballsy move from the Swedish developer in the first place, proving DICE aren’t afraid to pursue financially risky projects. Patrick Liu, one of the producers at the studio, has even recently commented he thinks the time is right to revisit the blisteringly pristine sprint ‘em up.

Speaking to Spong on the prospect of Mirror’s Edge 2 Liu says: “We see that there’s a huge fan following, it’s almost like a cult! And we know what strengths we had, and what weaknesses we had in that game. If we were to release a new game, we’d know what to improve and how to reach a broader audience. So I definitely think there’s a market there.”

With the soul of Battlefield 3 lying in its incredible multiplayer, there’s also enough longevity in the Frost Bite 2-powered shooter that DICE don’t have to immediately jump into developing a follow-up. So with all that said, we’ve come up with arguments to decide which of Battlefield 4 and Mirror’s Edge 2 should be made next. Click on the next page for all the opiniony goodness.
