Bioshock PS Vita “new Bioshock game” says Ken Levine
BioShock’s creator and head of Irrational Games Ken Levine gave tantalising details on bringing a Bioshock title to PS Vita at a recent conference in New York. And one thing’s clear – Irrational want it to be an entirely new game, not a port of Infinite or their previous titles.
“I think for us, the idea we have is a really good expression on a platform like [PS Vita]. It’s a different goal. And it has to sort of have its own voice in the franchise. If it just feels like a quieter voice in the franchise, I don’t think that works. For us”, Levine told press, although he did concede that “we’re still sort of in the paper design stage.”
Details of the PS Vita show it’s a platform with a lot of potential for innovative gaming. The foremost concern for Irrational is maintaining the impressively high standard set by previous releases, and develop the game in-house with a relatively small team:
“We have a Metacritic average of something like 88 or 89 percent. And the way you do that is you’re very careful with your bets … we made that bet and now we’re very carefully proceeding to make sure that it’s a game that stands tall within the franchise.”
Levine kept his cards close to his chest (or his adam close to his big daddy) when it came to the possibility of letting another team lose on the project, saying “it’s just hard to find the right partners or the right people to hire.”
